Jamie Jupiter’s eclectic sound is defined by a continual experimentation with different genres while maintaining a light touch with catchy lyrics and warm performances. Born and raised in Cape Town, he grew up in a theatrical environment as his father helped run the state theatre. His mother, a music therapist introduced him to a range of African instruments from a young age.

He began his 20 year career as a percussionist and harmonica player for numerous bands in the flourishing “Observatory” music scene in Cape Town in the early nineties. His first gigs of major significence were as guitarist for outrageous glam-rock sensation “The Honeymoon Suites,” a fun band with a loyal following in South Africa in the 90’s.

In 2004, he released his first album “A Brighter Life,” featuring vocal group Intyilo from the township Delft, Cape Town.

In 2006, he joined the African Music Workshop Ensemble – playing a multitude of unusual African instruments as accompaniment for the Menjaro Project, a global dance collaboration with choreographer and dancer Vincent Mantsoe. The show travelled to London,  traversed the USA and Canada on a 3 month tour and were honored to perform at Pina Bausch’s festival in Germany.

In later years, he joined “Angels on Horseback,” an award winning cabaret show.

In the last two years he has worked with poetic Afrikaans show “Korreltjie Kantel” which was nominated for a South African Music award last year. They are invited to perform in Belgium and Holland in October this year. Jamie also operates his own drum facilitation company, Ubuntu Drum fun, running djembe drumming sessions.

However, over 20 years, Jamie  has consistently worked on tailoring and crafting his own songs. His influences include John Lennon, David Bowie,  Johnny Cash, Bob Marley and Johnny Clegg.  Jamie developed a passion from a young age, for astute and conscious songwriting and is constantly evolving as a singer and  multi-instrumentalist.
